Paul Olivier, 22, and Daequan Griffin, 22, along with an unnamed 17-year-old were arrested in connection with the Sept. 14, 2023 shooting near the 3000 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred during a disturbance at the flea market related to a music video shoot for rappers Sexyy Red and Sukihana.
Deputies responding to the initial disturbance heard multiple gunshots coming from a nearby gas station. One victim, Anthony Dennis, 36, of Oviedo, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was transported to a local hospital by Oakland Park Fire Rescue. According to BSO spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis, investigators determined the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery, with suspects targeting the victims for a necklace and a Rolex watch.
Surveillance video released by BSO showed the dark-colored vehicle used in the robbery and shooting. Detectives identified all three suspects and issued warrants for their arrests. Miami police arrested Griffin and the 17-year-old in September on unrelated armed robbery warrants stemming from an incident earlier that year. Both now face first-degree murder charges in the Oakland Park case.
Olivier was arrested at his home in Lauderdale Lakes and faces one count of first-degree murder and two counts of probation violation, with additional charges pending. BSO homicide detectives believe the suspects may have been involved in similar robberies throughout Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
The arrests come as Florida communities grapple with rising violent crime in urban areas. Anyone with additional information about the case is urged to contact BSO Homicide Detective John Curcio at 954-321-4212.
