Tarik Skubal Begins Throwing Program After Elbow Surgery
National Desk
May 16, 2026
Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal began his throwing program this week, just over a week after undergoing a procedure to remove a loose body from his pitching elbow. The Tigers placed Skubal on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 4. The team anticipates Skubal will be sidelined for two to three months.
Manager A.J. Hinch stated Skubal felt good and reported no discomfort during initial throwing sessions. Skubal experienced elbow irritation during his last start on April 29 against Atlanta, but completed seven innings and recorded three strikeouts in the final inning.
Prior to the injury, Skubal made seven starts, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.70 ERA. He recorded 45 strikeouts and six walks in 43 1/3 innings. Skubal, who earned $32 million through arbitration, will be eligible for free agency following the World Series.
