Tamarac deputy-involved shooting: What we know so far
A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting in Tamarac left 35-year-old David Pagan hospitalized after deputies responded to reports of a man acting recklessly with a gun, according to CBS News Miami, Local 10, WSVN and BSO.
According to Pagan’s grandmother, he had become agitated and was firing a gun inside the house before going outside, prompting a 911 call. The grandmother identified the injured man as Pagan, and reports said he was shot in the stomach and foot. One report said he was in stable condition, while another said he remained in the ICU.
BSO said deputies encountered the individual after responding to the shooting report, and a deputy-involved shooting took place, according to agency spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis. BSO said crime scene investigators and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are involved, and the sheriff’s office is piecing together what led to the confrontation.
The deputies involved were placed on leave, which BSO said is standard protocol while the investigation continues.
The response included deputies blanketing the neighborhood and processing the scene overnight, but reports did not confirm any specific road closure or evacuation order.
Dispatch records show this was one of five similar officer-involved shootings reported in Tamarac over the past six months.
BSO and FDLE are investigating, and officials have not yet released additional details on what led to the shooting.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
