National Desk
April 21, 2026
SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — Tyler A. Herrod, 30, of Sylacauga lost his life in a violent two-vehicle crash on Alabama 25, authorities reported. The incident unfolded just after 2 p.m. on April 25 near the 160 mile marker, less than a mile west of Vandiver in Shelby County. Herrod rode a 2022 Harley-Davidson FXST that collided with a cargo van, ejecting him from the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.[1]
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the wreck. No details have emerged on the cargo van's driver or potential charges. Alabama 25, a key artery linking Sylacauga through Talladega and Shelby counties, has seen multiple fatal crashes in recent years, underscoring ongoing road safety concerns in central Alabama.[1]
Herrod's death marks another tragedy for Sylacauga motorcyclists, following separate fatal incidents involving locals in DeKalb County and during a police pursuit. ALEA continues to examine the Shelby County crash as Talladega County officials monitor highway conditions amid spring traffic surges.[1][2][3]
