National Desk
May 13, 2026
A man was found shot to death in Miami's Overtown neighborhood Wednesday morning, prompting a search for the suspect, according to Miami Police officials. The shooting occurred near Northwest 5th Street and Northwest 6th Avenue, close to an apartment complex, police said in a statement reported by NBC Miami.
Responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead on site. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Family members told reporters it was a drive-by shooting, though officials provided no further details on the circumstances or vehicle involved.
The incident adds to a series of recent shootings in Overtown. Earlier this week, around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, a man in his late 40s was critically injured in a shooting near Northwest 1st Place and 11th Terrace, where Miami Police and Fire Rescue found him with gunshot wounds and blood evidence on the sidewalk, per police reports and video from local broadcasts.
No suspects are in custody in either case, and detectives are working to determine motives. Miami Police have urged residents with information to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS, noting callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
Overtown residents near these intersections, including landmarks like Reeves Park at Northwest 5th Avenue and 10th Street, have seen multiple police responses to gunfire in recent days. Officials continue to investigate all incidents as part of ongoing efforts to address violence in the neighborhood.
