Sunset Restaurant & Lounge Reopens Under New Ownership, Promises Fresh Experience
Panama City's beloved Sunset Restaurant & Lounge, a landmark on Front Beach Road for decades, has officially reopened its doors under new ownership, promising a revitalized dining and entertainment experience for locals and beachgoers alike. The establishment, known for its stunning Gulf views and relaxed atmosphere, held a soft opening last week, with a grand re-opening celebration planned for later this spring.
The new owners, local entrepreneurs Maria and David Rodriguez, expressed their excitement about taking over the iconic venue. "We've always loved Sunset Restaurant & Lounge and its place in the community," said Maria Rodriguez during a brief interview. "Our goal is to honor its legacy while introducing some fresh ideas to enhance the overall experience. We want it to be a place where families can enjoy a delicious meal, friends can gather for a drink, and everyone feels welcome."
While the core charm of Sunset Restaurant & Lounge remains, patrons can expect several updates. The interior has undergone a tasteful refresh, featuring modern coastal decor inspired by the Emerald Coast and comfortable seating arrangements designed to maximize the panoramic sunset views. The menu has also been revamped, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced seafood and classic American dishes, alongside new culinary creations from Executive Chef Thomas Lee, a Panama City native.
"We're bringing back some of the old favorites that people remember, but also introducing exciting new flavors," explained Chef Lee. "Our emphasis is on quality ingredients and a diverse selection that caters to all tastes, from casual beachgoers to those looking for a special evening out."
In addition to the refreshed dining experience, the lounge area will feature live music on select nights, showcasing local talent and providing a vibrant atmosphere for evening entertainment. The Rodriguezes are also planning community-focused events throughout the year, aiming to make Sunset Restaurant & Lounge a central hub for local gatherings.
The reopening has been met with enthusiasm from many Panama City residents. "It's great to see Sunset open again," commented longtime resident Sarah Jenkins. "It's always been a special place, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the new owners have done with it."
Sunset Restaurant & Lounge is located at 1234 Front Beach Road and is now open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekend evenings. Further details about the grand re-opening event will be announced in the coming weeks.
