Strong Thunderstorms Near Lincolnton: Gusty Winds and Hail Expected

Residents in Catawba, Cleveland, Lincoln, and Gaston counties should prepare for strong thunderstorms currently impacting the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:17 PM EDT, effective until 9:00 PM EDT tonight, September 21, 2026.

Doppler radar is tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms located approximately 7 miles southeast of Lincolnton, near High Shoals. These storms are nearly stationary and are capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and hail up to half an inch in diameter.

Impacts include the potential for gusty winds to knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is also possible. Locations expected to be impacted include Gastonia, Lincolnton, Kings Mountain, Cherryville, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Dallas, Stanley, Ranlo, and High Shoals.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, which may lead to localized flooding. The NWS advises against driving vehicles through flooded roadways. Stay informed and take precautions to secure outdoor items and ensure safety during the storm.
