Strong Thunderstorm with 55 MPH Winds Nearing Kiowa and Hazelton

Residents in Barber County are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm with wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph is approaching. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Dodge City, KS, issued a Special Weather Statement at 7:25 PM CDT, effective until 8:00 PM CDT tonight, September 15, 2026.

At 7:24 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm very near Kiowa, moving northeast at 20 mph. This storm is expected to impact Hazelton around 7:30 PM CDT.

The primary hazard is wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The NWS advises anyone outdoors to consider seeking shelter inside a building during this time.
