Strong Thunderstorm Threatens DeKalb County: Gusty Winds and Lightning Expected

Residents in DeKalb County, particularly those in Crossville, Geraldine, Arona, Rodentown, Skirum, and Lathamville, should prepare for a strong thunderstorm currently tracking through the area. The National Weather Service in Huntsville, AL, issued a Special Weather Statement at 7:54 PM CDT, valid until 8:45 PM CDT.

Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm near Crossville, approximately 14 miles northeast of Boaz, moving south at 10 mph. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could result in downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring with this storm. If you are outdoors, immediately seek shelter inside a building or vehicle. Remember that lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Remain indoors until the storm passes.
