Strong Storms Bring 55 MPH Winds to Western Utah, Seek Shelter
Strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 55 mph are impacting Western Utah; residents should seek indoor shelter until 2:00 PM MDT, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents in the Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains, Tooele and Rush Valleys, and Western Millard and Juab Counties should seek shelter indoors due to strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) Salt Lake City issued a Special Weather Statement at 1:16 PM MDT today, September 28, indicating radar-confirmed wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph.
These storms are currently tracking northeast at 25 mph. The NWS reports that these conditions could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The statement is effective immediately and expires at 2:00 PM MDT.
Locations impacted include Dugway English Village, Vernon, Dugway Proving Ground Test Range, Skull Valley, Tooele Army Depot South, Fish Springs Wildlife Refuge, Utah Test and Training Range South, Rush Valley, and Faust. If you are outdoors in these areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
