Strong Storms Approach Mobile, George Counties; Seek Shelter Indoors

MOBILE, AL – Residents in Mobile Central, Mobile Coastal, and George areas are advised to seek shelter indoors as strong thunderstorms are tracking south at 40 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, issued a Special Weather Statement at 9:38 PM CDT, effective until 10:15 PM CDT tonight.

Doppler radar indicates wind gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph are possible. This can cause tree limbs to fall and unsecured objects to be blown around. The storms are currently along a line extending from 3 miles east of Vancleave to 7 miles southeast of I-10 and I-65.

Areas expected to be impacted include Midtown Mobile, Prichard, Tillmans Corner, Theodore, Chickasaw, Grand Bay, Bayou La Batre, Dauphin Island, Semmes, Tanner Williams, I-65 and I-165, Coden, Mobile Regional Airport, Fort Morgan, I-10 and I-65, and Alabama Port.

The NWS advises that if you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.
