Storm Warning: Mariners Advised to Secure Vessels Due to Extreme Weather

A Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Boston/Norton MA, effective immediately until Saturday, September 26, at 8:00 PM EDT. Mariners in affected coastal and ocean waters are advised to remain in port, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for severe conditions.

The warning forecasts Northeast winds of 30 to 40 knots with gusts up to 60 knots, and seas expected to reach 21 to 26 feet. These conditions are anticipated to begin at 2:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 25.

Affected areas include: Coastal Waters extending out to 25 nautical miles (NM) South of Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket in Massachusetts; Coastal Waters from Montauk NY to Marthas Vineyard extending out to 20 NM South of Block Island in Rhode Island; and Ocean Waters from Marthas Vineyard to Nantucket from 25 to 60 NM, as well as Ocean Waters from Montauk NY to Marthas Vineyard from 25 to 60 NM.

The NWS warns that storm force winds and hazardous seas will capsize or damage vessels and significantly reduce visibility. All mariners should take immediate action to ensure their safety and the security of their vessels.
