Special Marine Warning: High Winds, Waves for Mobile Bay, Mississippi Sound

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED: Mariners in North Mobile Bay, South Mobile Bay, Mississippi Sound, and coastal waters from Pensacola, FL to Pascagoula, MS (out 20 NM) must move to safe harbor immediately. A Special Marine Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, effective until 11:00 PM CDT tonight, September 21.

Strong thunderstorms were detected at 9:54 PM CDT, located along a line extending from near Pascagoula to near Alabama Port, moving south at 35 knots. These storms pose a hazard of wind gusts 34 knots (approximately 39 mph) or greater. Small craft could be damaged by briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Affected locations include Gaillard Island, East Fowl River Bridge, Sand Island Lighthouse, Middle Bay Light, Mississippi Sound East Of Pascagoula, Heron Bay, Central Dauphin Island, Dauphin Island Bridge, Fort Gaines, and Western Dauphin Island.

The NWS advises that gusty winds and high waves are expected. Move to a secure location without delay.
