WASHINGTON D.C. — South Korean companies have committed to a $54 billion investment in Alaska's natural gas infrastructure, including a pipeline and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. The announcement occurred in Washington D.C., outlining a plan for South Korean firms to provide financing and serve as purchasers of LNG from the proposed Alaska project.
Officials indicated the investment would support the development of a natural gas pipeline extending from Alaska's North Slope to the state's southern coast. The project also involves the construction of an LNG plant for processing and export.
The investment details emerged during an event where officials discussed the potential for foreign capital in U.S. infrastructure projects. This event marks an instance this week where an official highlighted foreign investment in a U.S. state. The previous instance also concerned an investment in a different state.
