Software Error Leads to Noncitizen Voter Registrations in New Jersey

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announced that a software error caused approximately 6,600 noncitizens to register to vote in the state. Sherrill confirmed this information yesterday, following an internal review of voter registration data.

According to the governor's office, the review also identified that about 400 of these registered noncitizens cast ballots in elections held between 2023 and 2024. Governor Sherrill did not provide further details regarding the specific software involved or the exact date the error began.
