Slotkin Asks Defense Officials to Confirm Military Will Not Intervene in Midterm Elections

WASHINGTON – Representative Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., has written to Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Hegseth and General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Slotkin, a former CIA analyst, requested confirmation from both officials regarding the military's role in the upcoming midterm elections.

In letters dated Tuesday, Slotkin asked Hegseth and Caine to affirm that the Department of Defense will not deploy federal troops to polling places. She also asked for a commitment that the Department will not seize any election materials.

Slotkin did not elaborate on the specific reasons behind her request for this confirmation.
