Skeletal Remains Unearthed Near Philly's Wissahickon Creek, Probe Launched
National Desk
April 21, 2026
Philadelphia police responded to a wooded area near the intersection of Wissahickon Creek and Germantown Avenue at approximately 6:41 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, where they found skeletal remains of an adult.[1][2] The discovery, in the city's East Falls section along the popular Wissahickon Valley Park trail system, has drawn scrutiny from investigators still probing the cause and manner of death.[1][3]
Due to the remains' deteriorated condition, authorities have not determined the individual's race, gender, or time of death.[1][2] The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office is leading the recovery and identification efforts, with no details released on potential foul play or how long the remains were present in the woods.[2] This stretch of Wissahickon Creek, a key feature of the 180-mile Schuylkill River Trail network, sees heavy foot traffic from hikers and runners in Northwest Philadelphia.[1]
Police have not linked the find to any missing persons cases and urged anyone with information to call the tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).[1][2] The investigation remains active as forensics teams work to uncover the person's identity and circumstances of death, heightening concerns in the community bordering Wissahickon Park.[3]
