Sinkhole Closes Wymore Road in Maitland, Orange County

A sinkhole roughly 20 feet wide forced Orange County to close a section of Wymore Road south of Brightwater Circle in Maitland early Friday, May 15, 2026.

The subsidence appeared just after midnight and affected both lanes of the roadway east of Interstate 4 and north of Maitland Boulevard. Orange County maintains the road. Authorities said no structures sit above the sinkhole and the subsidence is not expanding.

The City of Maitland and Orange County are setting up detours. Motorists should avoid the area until further notice and allow extra travel time for alternate routes.
