Senator Lindsey Graham Dies at 68 After Aortic Dissection

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican representing South Carolina, died Tuesday at the age of 68. Medical personnel attributed his death to an aortic dissection.

Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, shared that Graham asked a staff member to contact emergency services after he reported experiencing chest pains.

An aortic dissection involves a tear in the inner layer of the aorta, the body's main artery. Blood then surges through this tear, causing the inner and middle layers of the aorta to separate. This condition can lead to rapid death if not treated quickly.

Graham had served in the U.S. Senate since 2003. Before his time in the Senate, he represented South Carolina's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003.
