Seek Shelter: Strong Thunderstorm with Landspout Threatens Region
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Inland Nassau, Coastal Nassau, Western Duval, Inland Glynn, Coastal Glynn, Inland Camden, and Coastal Camden counties until 4:15 PM EDT due to a strong thunderstorm with a landspout threat and wind gusts up to 50 mph. Seek shelter indoors immediately.
Residents in Inland Nassau, Coastal Nassau, Western Duval, Inland Glynn, Coastal Glynn, Inland Camden, and Coastal Camden counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL.
A strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout was detected by Doppler radar at 3:27 PM EDT today, October 10. The storm is currently near Callahan and moving north at 25 mph. Hazards include landspouts and wind gusts up to 50 mph. This alert is effective until 4:15 PM EDT today.
Impacted locations include St. Marys, Kingsland, Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Woodbine, Dock Junction, Kings Bay Base, Country Club Estates, Kings Ferry, and Thalmann. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Torrential rainfall accompanying this storm may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If you are outdoors, immediately move indoors to a sturdy building.
