Seek Shelter: Strong Thunderstorm with 40 MPH Winds Near Mallory

Residents in parts of Logan and Wyoming counties should seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in Charleston, WV, issued a Special Weather Statement at 9:11 PM EDT, effective until 9:45 PM EDT tonight, September 21.

At 9:11 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm near Mallory, approximately 15 miles northwest of Pineville. The storm is moving east at 15 mph.

Hazards include wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible.

Areas impacted include Oceana, Mallory, Clear Fork, Coal Mountain, Baileysville, and Cyclone. If you are outdoors in these areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.
