Search Continues for Missing Sarasota Man
Sarasota authorities are continuing their search for 48-year-old Michael Thompson, who was last seen on Monday, April 14, 2026. Thompson was reported missing by his family after he did not return home from his usual morning walk near the scenic Legacy Trail.
Thompson, a resident of the Palmer Ranch area, is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, khaki shorts, and running shoes. His family stated he typically walks a route that takes him along the Legacy Trail, often extending towards Oscar Scherer State Park in the lush surroundings of Sarasota's south county.
Local law enforcement, assisted by volunteer search groups, has been concentrating efforts in the vicinity of the Legacy Trail and surrounding wooded areas. Search teams have utilized K9 units and drones in their operations over the past two days. Residents in the Palmer Ranch, Osprey, and Nokomis areas—charming coastal communities—are asked to remain vigilant and report any unusual sightings.
"We are asking the community to keep an eye out," said a spokesperson for the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. "Even the smallest detail could be crucial in helping us locate Mr. Thompson and bring him home safely to his family."
Anyone with information regarding Michael Thompson's whereabouts is urged to contact the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office at 941-861-4900. The family has also distributed flyers in local businesses and community centers, hoping to gather more leads.
