Sarasota County Sheriff announces key promotions

Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman announced two significant promotions within the department during a ceremony held on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Deputy Logan Mayer advanced to Sergeant, and Creative Communications Specialist Doug Johnson became the new Community Affairs Manager.

These promotions recognize the dedicated service and achievements of both individuals, strengthening the Sheriff's Office leadership and community engagement efforts.

Sergeant Logan Mayer began his career with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) in January 2017 as a deputy in the Patrol Bureau. After three years, he transferred to investigations, serving in the Special Investigations Section. In 2023, he joined the Tactical Unit. Mayer earned a Unit Citation as a member of the Tactical Unit and received the Sheriff’s Office Combat Cross Award. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Florida Gulf Coast University.

Doug Johnson, now Community Affairs Manager, joined the SCSO in August 2015 as a Creative Communications Specialist. Johnson received the agency’s Meritorious Achievement Award in 2018 and was nominated for Civilian Employee of the Year two years later. In 2025, he received a Unit Citation for his role in creating and developing the first SCSO Annual Block Party. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Moving Image Arts from the College of Santa Fe.

Sheriff Hoffman expressed his pride in the promotions. “Watching these promotions take place, inspires us all to give our best every day,” said Sheriff Hoffman. “We wish these individuals the best as they take the next steps in their careers!”

The newly promoted individuals have already assumed their new roles following the ceremony in July.
