Leesburg Opens Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station
Leesburg will dedicate its Safe Haven Baby Box on Tuesday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at Fire Station 61, 201 S. Canal Street.
The box allows parents in crisis to surrender a healthy infant up to 30 days old anonymously and securely. An alert notifies first responders immediately when the box opens. Florida law also permits parents to surrender healthy infants at hospitals, EMS stations, fire stations, or by calling 911.
Leesburg Sunrise Rotary, the City of Leesburg, and Leesburg Fire Rescue raised nearly $27,000 from community partners and residents to install the box.
The public is invited to attend. For information, contact Sunrise Rotary President Amanda McLea at 253-267-0997 or [email protected].
