Russian Foreign Minister Rejects German Call for De-escalation
Russia's top diplomat rejected calls from Germany to reduce tensions, following a meeting between the two nations' foreign ministers. This direct engagement marked the first between the officials since the 2022 Ukraine invasion.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed Germany's appeal for de-escalation after he met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Saturday. The two diplomats held their discussion on the sidelines of a conference. This engagement marked the first known direct meeting between the two officials since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
German officials have advocated for a reduction in military tensions. Mr. Lavrov, however, did not indicate a change in Russia's current operational posture following the discussions. The meeting allowed both ministers to present their respective positions regarding the ongoing situation.
