RIRIE, Idaho (Day.News) — Maria Carillo, 29, faces three felony counts of grand larceny and three misdemeanor counts of petit theft after allegedly stealing $759.90 from a Maverik gas station at 110 West Ririe Highway. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detective was assigned to the case on Jan. 13 following a tip from the company’s asset protection team, who had already fired Carillo.[2]
Surveillance video captured Carillo completing cash transactions and immediately issuing refunds to herself between Nov. 24 and Dec. 22, 2025. The scheme unfolded at the Ririe location, a key stop for locals along the highway in rural Jefferson County, where Maverik serves as a hub for fuel and quick stops amid Idaho’s potato country.[2]
A warrant was issued March 27, and Carillo was arrested April 13. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Judge Trent Belnap on May 28. Though charged, Carillo is presumed innocent until proven guilty, with potential penalties up to 45 years in prison if convicted.[2]
