Rex Heuermann Receives Life Sentence for Gilgo Beach Killings
A New York court sentenced Rex Heuermann to life in prison without parole on Wednesday after he admitted to killing three women whose remains authorities discovered near Gilgo Beach. Relatives of the victims addressed Heuermann during the sentencing hearing.
Heuermann pleaded guilty to the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. Their bodies were among several found along Ocean Parkway on Long Island, New York, starting in 2010. Authorities arrested Heuermann in July 2023.
During court proceedings, family members of the victims provided impact statements. They described the effect of the killings on their lives. Heuermann's admission of guilt concluded years of investigation into the Gilgo Beach killings.
