Redistricting Alters Congressional District Demographics in Six States

New congressional maps have altered the boundaries of predominantly Black areas in six states. These changes, enacted following the 2020 census and subsequent redistricting processes, have emerged in states led by Republican majorities.

Ballotpedia, a nonpartisan digital encyclopedia of American politics, charted the implementation of these new congressional maps. The analysis indicates specific impacts on districts with significant Black populations.

The redistricting effort, which takes place every ten years after the census, aims to redraw electoral boundaries to reflect population shifts. States individually develop and approve these maps.
