Rainy Day & Chilly Weather Fun on Anna Maria Island

Staff Writer
April 9, 2026

ANNA MARIA ISLAND – Despite the unseasonably cool and rainy weather that has settled over Manatee County this week, Anna Maria Island businesses and attractions are finding ways to keep spirits bright for residents and visitors alike.

With temperatures dipping into the low 60s and consistent rainfall since Monday, many typical beach activities have been put on hold. However, local establishments are reporting a shift in patronage, with indoor venues seeing an uptick in visitors.

The Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum, located at 402 Pine Avenue in the heart of the island's historic downtown, has been a popular spot for those seeking shelter and a dose of local history. "We've definitely seen more people coming through the doors, especially families looking for something engaging to do out of the rain," said a volunteer at the museum yesterday. Exhibits detailing the island's past, from its early settlers to its fishing heritage, offer a fascinating alternative to a day on the sand.

For those looking for a warm meal and community camaraderie, several local restaurants along the tree-lined Gulf Drive and Pine Avenue have been bustling. The Rod & Reel Pier Restaurant, known for its fresh seafood and panoramic views, reported a steady stream of diners enjoying the cozy indoor atmosphere. Similarly, cafes and bakeries have become popular havens for hot coffee and treats.

Retail shops, particularly those offering unique island-themed gifts and clothing, have also experienced increased foot traffic. "People are still looking for souvenirs and a little retail therapy, even if they can't be on the beach," commented the owner of a boutique on Pine Avenue.

While the forecast for the remainder of the week indicates a gradual improvement, with temperatures expected to rise and rain chances diminishing by the weekend, islanders are making the most of the cooler, wetter conditions. It's a reminder that even on a rainy day, Anna Maria Island offers plenty of charm and activities for everyone.
