Protecting Our Planet

Naples residents are encouraged to participate in Earth Day activities planned for later this month, focusing on local environmental stewardship. The City of Naples Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with several community groups, is organizing a series of events designed to clean up local parks and beaches and educate the public on sustainable practices.

On Saturday, April 20th, volunteers are invited to join a beach cleanup effort at Lowdermilk Park, starting at 9:00 AM. Participants will focus on removing litter and debris from the shoreline. Gloves and bags will be provided, and families are welcome. Following the cleanup, an educational session on marine life protection in the Gulf of Mexico will be held at the Lowdermilk Park pavilion.

Additionally, a community tree planting initiative is scheduled for Sunday, April 21st, at Cambier Park in the heart of downtown Naples. Beginning at 10:00 AM, volunteers will assist in planting native trees and shrubs to enhance the park's green spaces and promote local biodiversity. Tools and saplings will be supplied by the Parks and Recreation Department. City Councilwoman Sarah Jenkins is expected to attend and offer remarks on the importance of urban greening.

These events offer a tangible way for Naples residents to contribute to the health of our local environment. For more information or to register as a volunteer, please contact the City of Naples Parks and Recreation Department at 239-213-7120.
