Pompano Beach Storage Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at an Extra Space Storage facility near South Dixie Highway and Southwest Ninth Court in Pompano Beach damaged multiple units, sent up a heavy response and left officials investigating the cause, according to news reports and a city advisory.
According to WSVN and a Pompano Beach official media advisory, firefighters with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue knocked down the blaze and kept it from spreading to additional parts of the building. Officials said at least nine storage units were damaged, and smoke affected all 40 units inside the structure.
No injuries were reported, according to the city and WSVN. Officials estimated the building damage at at least $250,000, not including the contents of the storage units. A vehicle stored inside one of the units was destroyed, according to the city advisory.
The incident also prompted a temporary shutdown of South Dixie Highway before the road later reopened, according to WSVN. The Pompano Beach Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating what sparked the fire.
Dispatch records show 275 similar structure fire incidents in Pompano Beach over the past six months, underscoring how often local crews are called to this type of emergency.
Officials have not announced a cause, and the fire remains under investigation. Additional updates are expected from the fire prevention bureau as the inquiry continues.
