Pompano Beach Storage Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at an Extra Space Storage facility in Pompano Beach damaged multiple units early Tuesday, but no injuries were reported and the blaze was contained before it spread further, according to the City of Pompano Beach and WSVN.
According to the city, firefighters were called at 2:01 a.m. to the area of South Dixie Highway and Southwest Ninth Court and found smoke and flames coming from the warehouse. Officials said Pompano Beach Fire Rescue used numerous apparatus to knock down the fire.
The fire damaged at least nine storage units, and all 40 units in the building sustained smoke damage, according to WSVN and the city. The estimated damage was about $250,000, not including the contents of the units. A car stored inside one unit was destroyed, WSVN reported.
South Dixie Highway was shut down during the response and has since reopened to traffic, according to WSVN.
Dispatch records show 275 similar structure fire incidents in Pompano Beach over the past six months, underscoring how often local crews are called to building fires in the area.
The Pompano Beach Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause, and no cause has been confirmed. Officials have not reported any injuries.
