Pompano Beach Restaurant Fire: What We Know So Far
A kitchen fire at Flavors Caribbean Restaurant in a Pompano Beach shopping plaza was quickly extinguished Tuesday morning, and no injuries were reported, according to officials and local news reports.
Officials said the blaze started in the kitchen of the restaurant at Northeast Fifth Avenue and East Copans Road. The business sustained damage, but crews stopped the fire before it spread further, according to WSVN and CBS Miami.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene early Tuesday morning, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. The reports did not confirm any road closures connected to the restaurant fire.
Separate reporting from the same area also described a different fire near Copans Road at a Broward hazardous waste drop-off site, where several hundred propane tanks burned and exploded, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and local television reports. Fire Chief Pete McGinnis called it an “extremely dangerous situation” involving pressurized propane tanks and said firefighters’ quick, coordinated response helped prevent a more serious incident.
Dispatch records show 421 similar structure fires in Pompano Beach over the past six months, underscoring how frequently crews are called to building fires in the city.
No cause has been confirmed for the restaurant fire, and no arrests or injuries have been reported. A separate nearby Pompano Beach quadruplex fire remains under joint investigation by Pompano Beach fire investigators, the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office, according to reporting from TapInto Pompano Beach and CBS Miami.
Officials have not said when a formal cause determination will be released.
