Pompano Beach Quadruplex Fire: What We Know So Far
A pre-dawn fire at a Pompano Beach quadruplex sent two people to the hospital and displaced six residents, and officials say the cause remains under investigation.
According to city officials and news reports, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded at about 3:15 a.m. to a residential building in the 300 block of Northwest Fifth Street, where 14 adults were inside the four-unit property when the fire broke out. One adult male was hospitalized after suffering a laceration when he jumped from a window to escape the flames, and another person was hospitalized after experiencing a seizure during the incident. The other 12 residents got out without injury.
Officials said two of the four units were declared uninhabitable, leaving six people displaced. The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing and recovery assistance to those residents, according to officials.
The response included Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, Broward Sheriff's Office personnel and investigators, and the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office, which are all involved in the inquiry. Authorities said the scene was cordoned off with crime scene tape while investigators worked, and firefighters and EMS cleared the area by about 5 a.m.
Dispatch records show 394 similar structure fire incidents in Pompano Beach over the past six months, underscoring how often the city has had to respond to fire-related calls. No specific road closures were reported in the available coverage.
Officials have not said what sparked the blaze, and no suspect or arrest has been reported. Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
