Pompano Beach Quadruplex Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at a Pompano Beach quadruplex injured two people, displaced six residents and left two units uninhabitable, according to officials and news reports. Here is what we know so far.
According to CBS News Miami, the fire broke out at 345 NW 5th Street at about 3:15 a.m. and spread through a four-unit building that was occupied by 14 adults. One adult male suffered a laceration after jumping from a window to escape, and another person experienced a seizure. Both were taken to Broward Health North for treatment, while the remaining 12 residents got out without injury, according to the report.
The City of Pompano Beach said firefighters extinguished the blaze and that units 1 and 2 were deemed uninhabitable. Units 3 and 4 remain habitable, the city said, and the American Red Cross is helping provide temporary housing for the six displaced residents.
The response included Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, which said it arrived at about 3:15 a.m. and confirmed the building was occupied when the fire started, according to the city. The incident is now under investigation by Pompano Beach Fire Investigators, the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Dispatch records show there have been 264 similar structure fire incidents in Pompano Beach over the past six months.
What caused the fire has not yet been determined, and officials have not reported any arrests or a suspected arson determination.
