Pompano Beach Quadruplex Fire: What We Know So Far
A pre-dawn fire at a Pompano Beach quadruplex sent two people to the hospital and displaced six residents, and investigators are still working to determine what sparked the blaze.
According to TAPinto Pompano Beach, Local 10 News and NBC Miami, fire crews said 14 adults were inside the four-unit building when the fire broke out around 3:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Northwest Fifth Street. One adult male suffered a laceration after jumping from a window to escape the flames, and another person had a seizure during the incident and was taken to Broward Health North.
The remaining 12 residents escaped without injury, officials said. Two of the four units were declared uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross was providing temporary housing and recovery assistance to those displaced.
City officials said both injured patients were transported to Broward Health North for treatment. Authorities said the fire’s cause is under joint investigation by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue investigators, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Dispatch records show there have been 394 similar structure fires in Pompano Beach over the past six months.
With the cause still undetermined, officials are expected to continue gathering witness statements and assessing damage as the investigation moves forward.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
