Pompano Beach Quadruplex Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at a Pompano Beach residential quadruplex sent two people to the hospital, displaced six residents and left two of the four units uninhabitable, according to city officials and local news reports.
Officials said 14 adults were inside the building when the fire broke out, and the remaining 12 escaped without injury, according to the City of Pompano Beach and reported by TapInto Pompano Beach, Local 10 and NBC Miami. One adult male was hurt after jumping from a window to get away from the flames and smoke, and another person had a seizure during the incident; both were taken to Broward Health North, according to officials.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the damage was severe enough that two units were ruled uninhabitable, officials said. The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing and recovery assistance to the displaced residents, according to the city.
The response is now under joint investigation by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue investigators, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. No cause, suspect information or arrest has been reported in the available coverage.
Dispatch records show this is part of a steady stream of fire activity in the city, with 394 similar structure fire incidents reported in Pompano Beach over the past six months.
Officials have not said when the next update will be released, but the ongoing multi-agency investigation suggests more information may come as investigators determine what sparked the fire and how it spread.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
