Pompano Beach Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far
Two people were injured and six residents were displaced after a residential fire at a quadruplex in Pompano Beach, and investigators are still working to determine what sparked the blaze, according to officials and news reports.
According to CBS News Miami, the fire broke out at 345 NW 5th Street and left 14 adults in the four-unit building scrambling to escape. One adult male suffered a laceration after jumping from a window, and another person had a seizure during the incident. Both were taken to Broward Health North for treatment. The remaining 12 residents got out without injury, and no deaths were reported in the available reporting.
Firefighters knocked down the flames, and officials said units 1 and 2 were left uninhabitable while units 3 and 4 remained habitable, according to TAPinto Pompano Beach and NBC Miami. The City of Pompano Beach said the American Red Cross is helping provide temporary housing and assistance for those displaced.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded around 3:15 a.m. and said six residents were displaced, according to city officials. The cause has not been determined. The investigation is being handled by Pompano Beach Fire Investigators, the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Dispatch records show there have been 264 similar structure-fire incidents in Pompano Beach over the past six months.
What happens next will depend on findings from the fire investigation team, which has not released a cause, suspect information or any arrest information in the available reporting.
