Pompano Beach Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at a Pompano Beach apartment building injured two people and displaced six residents, and investigators are still working to determine what started it, according to officials and news reports.
According to CBS News Miami and the City of Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, one person was taken to Broward Health North after jumping from a window to escape smoke and flames and suffering a laceration, while a second person was hospitalized after having a seizure during the incident. Officials said 12 other residents got out without injury. The city’s Strategic Communications Office said two people were taken to the hospital and six residents were displaced.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and two of the building’s four units were left uninhabitable, according to reports from CBS News Miami and TAPinto Pompano Beach. The American Red Cross was assisting displaced residents with temporary housing and recovery support, officials said.
The response included Pompano Beach fire investigators, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, which are jointly investigating the cause, according to officials. That active investigation means authorities have not yet released a cause or said whether the fire was accidental or suspicious.
Dispatch records show this address has had three prior incidents in recent days: structure fires on June 5 and June 7, and a fall injury on June 6.
Officials have not said when the next update will be released, but the investigation remains active and additional details could come from fire investigators or the city’s communications office as the case develops.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
