Pompano Beach Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far

A fire at an apartment building in Pompano Beach sent two people to the hospital, and officials say the cause remains under investigation. Here is what we know so far.

According to CBS News Miami and TAPinto Pompano Beach, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue responded to the fire at a quadruplex in the city. Two people were transported to a hospital in connection with the incident, including one man who suffered a laceration after jumping from a window to escape smoke and flames.

A second person was taken to the hospital after experiencing a seizure during the fire, according to the reporting. Officials said the remaining 12 residents got out without injury. Six residents were displaced, and two of the four units were left uninhabitable. The other two units were cleared for residents to return, according to the reports.

The city’s Strategic Communications Office said the American Red Cross was helping displaced residents with temporary housing and recovery assistance. Officials also said the fire’s cause is being investigated jointly by Pompano Beach fire investigators, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Investigators remained at the scene during the morning, and the area was cordoned off with crime scene tape, according to the reports. No confirmed road closures or traffic impacts were reported.

The response involved local fire rescue, sheriff’s deputies and state fire investigators, indicating an active scene with both life-safety and investigative concerns. Officials have not released a cause.

Dispatch records show 454 similar structure fires in Pompano Beach over the past six months.
