Pompano Beach Apartment Fire Injures 2, Displaces 6: What We Know So Far
A fire at a four-unit residential building in Pompano Beach injured two people and displaced six residents, and investigators are still working to determine what caused it, according to city officials.
City officials said the fire was reported around 3:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Northwest Fifth Street, where 14 adults were inside the building’s four units when the flames broke out. One adult male suffered a laceration after jumping from a window to escape, and another person experienced a seizure during the incident, officials said. Both were taken to Broward Health North, while the remaining 12 residents escaped without injury.
Officials said two of the four units were declared uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross was helping provide temporary housing for the displaced residents.
The response brought multiple agencies to the scene, including Pompano Beach fire investigators, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Broward Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation after firefighters cleared the scene, and the area was cordoned off with crime scene tape while investigators worked. No specific road closures were reported in the available coverage.
Dispatch records show 394 similar structure fire incidents in Pompano Beach over the past six months.
What happens next will depend on findings from the ongoing investigation by fire and law enforcement officials. City officials have not yet confirmed a cause, and additional details are expected as the case develops.
