Philly Police Nab Suspect in Burglary Spree Targeting Asian Businesses

National Desk
May 4, 2026
Philadelphia police arrested 45-year-old Frederick Gray on charges tied to a months-long crime spree targeting Asian-American business owners in the region. Investigators say Gray's group placed GPS trackers on victims' vehicles to surveil and burgle their homes, including a violent break-in at a residence on Village Green Boulevard in Bensalem, Bucks County. Surveillance video showed armed suspects forcing entry, ransacking the property and fleeing in a sprinter van.[1] The operation extends beyond Philadelphia, with reports of similar burglaries in Montgomery County where thieves used Wi-Fi jammers, two-way radios and public records like real estate taxes to identify Asian-owned businesses and their owners' homes. Abington Police and Montgomery County detectives, aided by U.S. Marshals, arrested more than a dozen suspects in coordinated raids, though many remain at large.[4] In related cases, one suspect remains sought in armed break-ins at Asian-owned businesses, while a second, 29-year-old Norman Bowen, faces charges of robbery, burglary and conspiracy.[2][6] Philadelphia's Asian communities, concentrated in areas like Chinatown and Northeast neighborhoods, have raised alarms over the pattern. A separate but linked incident in Chinatown at 9th and Nobel streets saw a group rape and rob victims at a massage parlor, leading to the arrest of 18-year-old Saidakhmad Bakiev, who faces multiple felony counts and $850,000 bail. Police describe other fugitives as white males possibly of Russian or Central Asian descent and urge tips to the Special Victims Unit.[3] Law enforcement across Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties continues joint investigations, linking the crimes through tactics like counter-surveillance. Residents of Asian-owned businesses are advised to check vehicles for trackers amid fears of expanding threats in the Philadelphia metro area.[1][4]
