Phillies Place Catcher Realmuto on 10-Day Injured List

The Philadelphia Phillies placed catcher J.T. Realmuto on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with back spasms. Realmuto, 35, exited Saturday's 3-1 loss to Atlanta due to lower back tightness. He returned to the lineup Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs before his back pain re-emerged.

Manager Rob Thomson stated Realmuto experienced soreness and inflammation. He anticipated Realmuto's return at the 10-day mark. Realmuto is batting .259 with one home run and four RBIs in 17 games this season.

The Phillies recalled catcher Garrett Stubbs from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the roster spot. Right-hander Max Lazar, recovering from an oblique strain, moved to the 60-day injured list. Realmuto joins closer Jhoan Duran (oblique strain), right-hander Zack Wheeler (shoulder surgery), and reliever Zach Pop (calf strain) on the injured list.

Lefty reliever José Alvarado also experienced back spasms Tuesday but threw on flat ground Wednesday. Thomson indicated Alvarado would be available. Duran, acquired from Minnesota in July, is playing catch.
