Rory McIlroy addressed the future of LIV Golf, stating, "I'm glad I was wrong." Speaking before the PGA Championship, McIlroy acknowledged that the PGA Tour's stance on the issue proved correct. He indicated that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) would withdraw its financial support from LIV Golf after the current season, attributing this shift to broader geopolitical developments.
McIlroy highlighted the lack of direct communication regarding these developments among LIV Golf players. He cited personal conversations with a caddie whose player remained unaware of the impending funding changes until late in the process. McIlroy noted that this created a situation where the "rug was pulled from under their feet."
Regarding LIV Golf's future structure, McIlroy stated he lacked specific information on ongoing deals or potential new sponsors. He suggested that any future LIV Golf schedule would likely appear "drastically different" from its previous four years.
