Parkland Library Announces New Digital Literacy Workshops for All Ages
Parkland residents looking to sharpen their computer skills or navigate the digital world with more confidence will have new opportunities starting next month. The Parkland Public Library, located on Main Street in the heart of Broward County's Parkland, announced a series of free digital literacy workshops designed for all ages and skill levels, set to begin in May.
The new program aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure everyone in the community has access to essential technological knowledge. "In today's world, digital skills are no longer a luxury, but a necessity," stated Library Director Sarah Jenkins during a recent press briefing. "Whether it's applying for jobs online, connecting with family, or accessing public services, we want to empower every Parkland resident to feel comfortable and capable with technology."
Workshops will cover a range of topics, from basic computer operation and internet safety to more advanced sessions on using productivity software and understanding social media. Specific classes include 'Introduction to Computers,' 'Navigating the Internet Safely,' 'Email Basics,' and 'Understanding Your Smartphone.' The library plans to offer both daytime and evening sessions to accommodate various schedules.
The initiative comes after a recent community survey highlighted a strong interest in technology education among residents in Parkland's family-friendly neighborhoods. The library has secured a grant from the Parkland Community Fund to purchase new equipment and training materials for the program, ensuring high-quality instruction for participants.
Registration for the first series of workshops will open on April 22, 2026, and can be completed in person at the library's front desk or by calling the library during operating hours. Class sizes will be limited to ensure personalized attention, so early registration is encouraged. A full schedule of workshop dates and topics will be available on the library's bulletin board and through their monthly newsletter next week.
This new offering from the Parkland Public Library is expected to be a valuable resource for many, from seniors looking to connect with grandchildren to job seekers needing to update their resumes. It represents a significant step in the library's ongoing commitment to serving the evolving information needs of the Parkland community.
