Pahokee's 'Shy Girl' Sculpture Finds New Home at Marina
Pahokee residents and visitors will notice a familiar, yet newly situated, piece of public art gracing the Pahokee Marina and Campground, a beloved hub for the local angling community. The beloved 'Shy Girl' sculpture, a creation by local artist Sam Perry, has been officially relocated to a prominent spot overlooking Lake Okeechobee.
Previously located near the entrance of the Pahokee City Hall on Barfield Highway, the decision to move 'Shy Girl' was made by the City Commission last month to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the revitalized marina area. City Manager Greg Thompson noted that the move was part of ongoing efforts to beautify public spaces and draw more attention to the waterfront.
The bronze sculpture, depicting a young girl shielding her face, has been a quiet fixture in Pahokee for over a decade, often sparking conversation among those who encounter it. Its new placement at the marina, near the main dock, offers a picturesque backdrop and is expected to become a popular photo opportunity for visitors enjoying the lakefront amenities of the Glades region.
The relocation process, which involved careful handling by a local crew, was completed yesterday, April 7, 2026, without incident. The city anticipates that 'Shy Girl' will continue to be a cherished symbol of Pahokee's unique charm in its new, more visible home.
