Orlando City Council Approves New Sidewalk Project for Colonialtown North
Orlando City Council members voted unanimously yesterday, April 15, to approve a new sidewalk construction project for the historic Colonialtown North neighborhood. The initiative, spearheaded by District 3 Commissioner Robert F. Stuart, aims to enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity along several key streets.
The project will focus on installing new sidewalks and repairing existing ones on parts of Summerlin Avenue, Cathcart Avenue, and Oregon Street. Residents have long advocated for these improvements, citing concerns about children walking to the nearby Colonialtown Elementary School and general neighborhood walkability. Funding for the project, estimated at $450,000, will come from the city's capital improvement budget for the current fiscal year.
Construction is slated to begin in late summer, with an expected completion by early 2027. Further details regarding specific construction timelines and potential traffic impacts will be shared with Colonialtown North residents in the coming weeks through neighborhood association meetings and city communications.
