One dead, dozens hurt in Iranian drone strikes on Kuwait airport

Iran launched drone strikes against Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and injuring dozens of others, according to Kuwaiti and U.S. officials.

The Iranian military said it carried out the attack in retaliation for earlier U.S. strikes. Those American operations targeted an Iranian oil tanker and an island in Iranian territory, the Iranian military stated.

Kuwaiti authorities confirmed the casualty count and said emergency responders treated the wounded at the airport. The strike damaged infrastructure at the facility, though officials did not specify which structures sustained harm.

The attack marked an escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States following the earlier American operations. The Iranian military released a statement identifying the airport as a military target, though it also serves as a civilian aviation hub.

U.S. officials acknowledged carrying out strikes on Iranian targets but characterized them as responses to prior Iranian military activity. The American military did not immediately comment on the drone strikes against Kuwait.
