Oklahoma Woman Killed in Apparent Murder-Suicide Following Online Allegations

OWASSO, Okla. — An Owasso woman, Sara Gilson, 38, died on March 27 in what authorities have described as an apparent murder-suicide. Her husband, James Gilson, 38, also died in the incident.

Police responded to a 911 call from the couple's home where a dispatcher reported hearing a woman screaming and crying before the call disconnected. Officers arriving at the scene discovered both Sara and James Gilson dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The Owasso Police Department stated they consider the deaths a murder-suicide. Detectives found what they believe to be a suicide note at the scene. They have not released further details regarding the contents of the note.

The incident occurred weeks after Sara Gilson posted allegations on social media platform TikTok regarding her husband. She claimed James Gilson possessed child sexual abuse material. These posts led to a federal investigation, according to the Owasso Police Department.

The U.S. Secret Service contacted Owasso police on March 26, the day before the deaths, to inform them of an active federal investigation into James Gilson. The federal agency stated they had executed a search warrant at the couple's residence on March 26 in connection with allegations of child sexual abuse material. Police said James Gilson was aware of the investigation.

Owasso police confirmed their involvement in the federal investigation began in January when a federal agency contacted them. They then forwarded the information to federal authorities for investigation. Owasso police did not take further action at that time, citing the federal nature of the alleged crimes.
