NCAA Postseason Expansions Alter College Sports Landscape

College sports officials finalized major postseason expansions for both football and basketball. The College Football Playoff (CFP) will expand to a 12-team format, increasing its field by eight teams. This new structure creates additional opportunities for conference champions and at-large selections. Conference commissioners and university presidents confirmed the unanimous approval for this change, scheduled to begin with the 2024 season. The expanded CFP will significantly alter revenue distribution among conferences and participating institutions. In basketball, the NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments will also grow. The Division I Men's Tournament will expand to 76 teams, adding 12 new berths. The Division I Women's Tournament will increase to 72 teams, incorporating eight additional spots. This marks the first expansion for the men's tournament since 2011 and the women's tournament since 1994.
